Our Visit from St John - 28 May

Our Visit from St John - 28 May
Today Nikoli and Joe came to visit Room 4 to talk about emergencies and what we need to know.
First we talked about what big and small emergencies are and when to call for an ambulance.  We said that breaking your leg was an emergency when we need to call for an ambulance but scratching our finger a little bit is not an emergency and our parents or the teacher on duty could put a plaster on our finger.
We talked about if someone is unconscious then they are not talking, they have their eyes closed and they are not moving.  We talked about the five finger rule.
1. Ask yourself am I safe? - check for cars around, cracks in the road or sharp objects while we are helping the person
2. Look at the injured person and say, "Hello, my name is _______."  "What is your name?"
3. Talk to them some more.  Give them a gentle shake.
4. Check if there is any food in their mouth.  Turn the person on their side.
5. Call 111

We paired up and worked on the five finger rule.

Plant People

Plant People - 24/5/19
Today we made very special plant people.  We filled a yoghurt container with soil and drew a picture of ourselves to put on the front of the pot.  Inside the pot we put soil and grass seed.   In a few weeks time the seed will grow and it will look like we have grown green hair!!!!!!!

5/6/19
Look at them now!!!!  I think they might need a haircut soon!!!!

Our Trip to the Botanic Gardens - 15 May 2019

Our Trip to the Botanic Gardens - 15 May 2019

What a wonderful trip we had today and we were so lucky with the weather.
When we arrived we had morning tea and then the children went with their parent helper and enjoyed walking around the Botanic Gardens.  They had to find a range of different flower colours, the  insects that were around the gardens and the variety of leaf shapes.
After lunch we met Caroline and she told us that there were 10,000 different kinds of plants at the Botanic Gardens.  At the Education Centre we built life cycles of plants using large, wooden pieces.  Then we discussed the needs of plants and found out that water, sunshine air, soil and nutrients are important to plants.  We looked at the tiger worms and used magnifying glasses to observe them.
We went outside and each child planted a bean seed.  We put on our garden gloves and the students got a seedling and planted it in the garden.  After that we swept the paths, washed the trowels, dug the soil and watered the gardens.  Then we washed our hands.  Caroline let us try a piece of persimmon from the large persimmon tree where we were working.  It was so yummy.
Then it was time to go on the bus and return to Point View School.
