Today the students in Room 4 went to Technology or STEM with Mr Rankin. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
The students made dominoes out of wooden blocks. They were taught about being safe and they know it is very important to work together and wear their safety glasses.
We learned that:
* the mouth holds the mitre box which holds the wood and makes sure our fingers are safe when using the saw.
*we must use the tools in the tools in a safe way.
The students had a toolbox and inside the toolbox was:
*a hammer
*pliers
*measuring tape
*spirit level
*file
*ruler
*pencils
The students had to measure a piece of wood 20cm.
They put the wood in the mitre box and lined up the pencil line with the slot on the mitre box.
Then they sawed the wood.
They sandpapered the edges of the domino pieces to make them smooth.
After that the next thing they had to do was to paint their domino piece and then put a line in the middle of it.
Then when the paint was dry they went to a very special machine to make holes in it.
We now have a great game to use in the classroom, thanks to the children and the wonderful parent support.
