MOTAT Visit

 MOTAT Visit

Today Jasmine and Ashleigh, from MOTAT, came to work with Room 4.  They showed some simple machines and we discussed levers, ramps or inclined planes, wedges, wheel and axle, pulley and screws.
The students were put into small groups and they made their own marble runs.  The students had to work together, solving problems and be creative.  They had so much fun.
After they built their marble runs they showed all the members of Room 4.
The students discussed the challenges that they faced.  Some of these were:
- a challenge to keep the marble on the path
- looking at different angles
- hard to connect some pieces so they lined up

Te Reo weith Whaea Pen

 Te Reo weith Whaea Pen
Whaea Pen came to Room 4 to begin her once a week Te Reo Lesson with Room 4.
We all had a great time with Whaea Pen.  We sang lots of waiata's.  We also went over the Maori alphabet.  Our word of the week is titiro (mai) which means look (this way).  We talked about  what whānau means and we all knew it was our family and friends.  We went over how to say what our name is and how we can reply to a friend.  Whaea Pen read us a story in Maori called, 'Taku Whānau' and we discuss what some of the words meant in English.  We will be learning a mihi soon which is a Maori greeting.

Cultural Week

 Cultural Week
What an amazing week we had, celebrating the rich diversity within our school community.  The students in Room 4 were able to enjoy a range of activities at lunchtime.  Please ask your child what they enjoyed about Cultural Week.
Thank you to all the parents for your support with organising your child's cultural clothing.  They all looked amazing and they were so proud to wear their special clothing.
We had an assembly on Friday and there were items from all around the world to enjoy.

I am sure you will like to view these amazing photos:
