Making Pinch Pots

Making Pinch Pots
The children watched a video which was all about how to make a pinch pot, using clay.  They loved working with the soft clay.  After they made their pot they designed it by scratching out patterns on the clay.  Then the pot sat for a few days to dry.  After it was hard the children then painted their pot and put glitter on the inside to make it shine.

Today was the Junior Cross Country.  The children arrived at school very excited about the day.  We went to the field at 11:00am and lined up ready for the event.  The children had a wonderful time enjoying the sunshine and enjoying running in their races.  The water bottles were well used.  I took a photo of before and after the event.

Trip to the Auckland Museum - 7 November 2018

Trip to the Auckland Museum - 7 November 2018

What a fabulous trip we had to the Auckland Museum today.
When we arrived we had morning tea then we went with our parent helper around the museum to look at previous learning topics and other areas of interest.
After lunch we were led by educators.  We looked at a large map of the Islands of the Pacific and we learned how to say hello in different languages.  We discussed the story of Sena and the Eel.  We also listened to the story of How Maui bought Fire to the Earth.  Our educator showed us how they made fire with sticks and the children enjoyed the experience.

Grandparents Day - Friday 2 November

Grandparents Day - Friday 2 November

What a wonderful day we had with the grandparents.  They came into our classroom and we read a poem to them about grandparents then the children read some grandparent stories.  After that we read a shared book and then some of the children shared their grandparents charts.  Then the children illustrated their poem with their grandparents.  Then we went outside for folk dancing.  At morning tea they enjoyed a cup of tea and some morning tea.  After morning tea we all went to the hall to celebrate our learning with the grandparents.  The grandparents were given a chart and story about grandparents to keep that their grandchild had written at school.
We had a fabulous time we all had.
