Presenting a dance to the Junior School - Wednesday 22 August

Presenting a dance to the Junior School - Wednesday 22 August

Today we presented a dance called 'Surfin' USA to the Junior classes.  We have been learning this dance and have thought of some really great moves.  We were so excited to share it with the other classes.
First we shared our dance and then we played it again so the other classes could do the dance.
We all felt so proud of ourselves.
Enjoy looking at the dance:

Trip to Te Tuhi Art Gallery - 16 August 2018

Te Tuhi Art Gallery - 16 August 2018
Today we went to Te Tuhi Art Galley.
We met Charlotte there and she took us straight to the art studio.  The children were very excited about learning all about colour.  The learning intention was to think about colours in our environment. The learning outcome was to create our own colour wheel and learn about primary, secondary and tertiary colours.
The children made their own colour wheel.  First they worked on the primary colours then moved to the secondary colours then the tertiary colours.
We went to the art gallery and looked at a piece of art by Benjamin Work.  He reimagined the Tongan flag and showed a person, Tongan weapons, stars and a bird on his flag.
Then Charlotte put the children in groups and they worked on a colour wheel activity.

Art - Fish

Art - Fish
The children looked at a range of different fish shapes on the ActivBoard and we discussed what they looked like.  Then they sketched lots of different shapes of fish using a pencil.  After that they chose their favourite fish and enlarged it onto a piece of paper.  Using pastels they coloured the fish in, thinking about complementary colours, warm and cool colours.  After that they used a black pastel to go around the outside of their fish.  The background was dyed and they decided on the texture they wanted to use and they used paint for this.
