Buddy Maths - 30/8/19

Buddy Maths - 30/8/19
Today Room 4 went to visit our buddy class and did did some amazing maths with them.
Each buddy was given a number board and the students talked about a game that they could make from this.  Dice, counters and paper were provided if they needed them.
Here is a picture of the game board they were given:

Here are the students working together on the game with their own rules:

Some examples of their work on paper:

We discussed some of the games the students designed:
*have a target number - choose a starting place - add that number and continue until you get to the target number
*have a target number - if you land on a blue circle you add the number to the current number - if it goes over the target number you are out - you need to think where to go on the board
*have a target number - if you land on a blue circle you can add or subtract
*start on any number and move to a new number - add the number
*have a target number - if you land on a blue circle - shake two dice e.g 5 and 1 can be 51 or 15 - add or take the number away
* roll the dice - have a set of rules for every number - follow the instructions

An excellent game that provides lots of conversation.

Maths Week - Week 5 19 August - 22 August

Maths Week - Week 5 19 August - 22 August

What an exciting week we are all having with mathematics.
The students are moving to different classes and working on a range of activities.
Please tell your families all about what you have been doing.

Room 4 - 19/8/19
The students worked on a variety of number games.  They had to think really hard about their partners next move and decide the best move for them to take.  There was a lot of problem solving and lots of fun!

Room 5 - 20/8/19
Mrs Shewing worked with Room 4 on OSMO using tangrams and numbers.  They had lots of fun.

Room 6 - 21/8/19 - Room 4 had lots of fun programming the sphero to draw shapes.  They could change the colour and the speed.

Room 3 - 22/8/19 - Room 4 worked on Scratch Junior which is a prpgramme on the iPad.  They created their own background adn characters.  They could make them move in different directions and at different speeds.  This programme could make the characters talk!
