Visit from St John

Visit from St John

Nikoli from St John came to Point View School to talk to the children about injury prevention.
She talked about what danger means and how we need to make good decisions around our home and school.  We made a list of different ways we can fall.  Nikoli talked about the importance of asking your mum or dad if you can drink or eat something so you know it is safe.  Then we talked about rules we need to remember when we are on a trampoline.  Here are some of the rules:
*when you are jumping on the trampoline, bend your knees
*do not jump off the trampoline
*don't bounce too high
*land in the centre of the mat
*always look at what you are doing
*no shoes
*have an adult watching
*use safety pads
*make sure your trampoline is on a level surface, away from fences and outdoor furniture
*there should be nothing underneath the trampoline
*use a dry mat to jump on

Here are some photos for you to enjoy:

A Visit from the Fire Engine

A Visit from the Fire Engine
On Wednesday 20 September two fire engines and their crew visited the Junior classes.  First we went into the hall and the firefighters talked about their job and the clothes they have to wear when they are  going to a fire.  Then we went outside and the firefighters talked about what is inside their fire truck.  The children all had a turn of holding the hose which was very exciting.
Enjoy looking at the photos:

We went back into the hall and the firefighter put on the siren.  It must of been very loud outside.

Science in a Van

Science in a Van
Alan and Emily visited from Science in a van on Tuesday 19 September.
They talked about forces, mixture, separating and reaction.  They made lots of different bubbles and these floated in the air.  They added baking soda to a mixture to see what the reaction would be.
We did lots of predicting what might happen which was great fun.
Your child will share with you what they saw.
