Trip to The Auckland Zoo

On 13 June Room 4 went to The Auckland Zoo.  We had an amazing day and the weather was fine too.
Room 4 got the opportunity to walk around and observe the animals.  We found out some interesting facts about the animals such as where they come from, which animal family they belong to and what they eat.
After lunch we met the zoo educators and they talked about:
* The Night - we discovered where the kiwi live
* The Wetlands - we found out about the eels
* Islands - we discovered the tuatara and learned how to care for lizards
* The Coast / Blue Ducks - we explored the coast
* High Country - we found out facts about the kea
* Forest Aviary - we discovered lots of New Zealand birds

Children, please talk to your parents about all the interesting things you found out at the zoo.
Here are some photos for you to enjoy:

Art - Printing

The children had a wonderful time creating their own print.
First they made a variety of pencil sketches about birds or the environment.  They chose their favourite one and copied this onto printing foam.  Then they got a pen and went over their lines slightly deeper so they made a ridge.  We had discussed the use of complementary colours so the children choose the two colours that complemented each other.  They used printing ink and a roller to cover the foam and this was put onto the cardboard in two different colours.
WOW!!!!  They really enjoyed the experience.
Enjoy looking at the photos

Music

The children enjoy singing together.
Here we are singing to 'Islands'.  Enjoy

The children enjoy visiting their music teacher Ms Allen.  They learn new songs, work with a range of musical instruments and move to a variety of musical sounds.
