Inquiry Learning - The Moon

The children enjoyed finding information about the first landing on the moon.
First the children brainstormed all the facts they knew about the moon and this was recorded on large sheets of paper.  Then these ideas were cut up and the children had the opportunity to put them into categories.  After that they were introduced to our intranet site on Neil Armstrong.  Then they were given a set of questions and they had to research the answers in pairs.
The children enjoyed finding out and sharing the information.
Here are some photos of the children in action.

Technology Day

The children had a wonderful day on the 20 November with Mr Rankin.  They made hamburgers.  The  children got to make their own bread dough and then put them into a round shape.  The bread was then baked in the oven and they said it smelt delicious.  Then they made the filling for the hamburgers.  They said that they tasted really yummy.
Here are some photos to show what they were doing.
Enjoy

Cricket Training

On Thursday 13 November two members from the Howick and Pakuranga Cricket Club came to coach Room 4.  They told us the correct way to hit the ball with the bat and where to put our hands.  The children were divided up into two teams, one team were batting and the other team were fielding.  Then we swapped over.
We had lots of fun.
Enjoy the photos

Swimming

Swimming
What a wonderful time we all had at swimming.  The children were divided up into six groups and each child received a lesson at their appropriate level.
Here are some photos to show you the progress they have made.

Police Helicopter

What an exciting morning!
On Tuesday 11 November the police helicopter landed on our school field.  The middle school had invited them to come to talk to their syndicate.  We were able to watch the helicopter fly around our school and then land right in the middle of our field.
Here are some photos of it.

Cultural Celebration Week

This week at Point View School we celebrated the cultural diversity in our school community.
On Friday we invited all students to come to school dressed in their cultural dress.  If they didn't have a cultural dress they could come dressed in the colours of their country or black and white for NZ.
We had an assembly in the morning and a guest from the Chinese Consulate spoke and we had many cultural groups performing.
It was a very exciting day.
Here are some photos of the children in our class, don't they look fantastic.

Here are two of the many items at our assembly.

After assembly we had a parade in the playground.

Art - Space

The children have had a wonderful time creating their own space craft.
First they sketched lots of different shaped space craft and choose the one they wanted to enlarge.

Then they enlarged their design onto black paper and used pastels in a variety of colours.

After that they used puffy paint and glitter.  Here are a few examples for you to enjoy.
