Mihi and Waiata

Room 4 talked about a mini and what it was.  We discussed that it is a Maori greeting, a formal welcome or a thank you.

Nitish read out his name, father's name, mother's name, the place he lives and his school.

You have a go

We discussed the word 'waiata'.  The children talked about it being a Maori song, something to enjoy singing.
Here are some songs that we enjoy singing together.

We even sang part of the National Anthem.

Time Capsules

We had so much fun designing our own time capsules.
We discussed what a time capsule was and the children then looked at a variety of rocket shapes.  They made their own capsule using coloured paper.
Then they wrote about 'My dream ...'  After they illustrated it they rolled their story up and put it into their rocket.
I wonder when they are going to open it again.

Technology with Mr Rankin

The children had a fabulous day with Mr Rankin.
They worked with lego pieces and designed a special chair that could speed down a ramp.  They tested the chair and discussed how they could make it faster.  The children were using the words, ramp, gravity, slope and slide.
They were very excited to see and discuss their results.

After they made their special chair with wheels some children tested it out on the ramp and they could see how fast it went as the number came up on the ramp.

Then they all went and checked their special chair with wheels and modified it to make it go faster.
There was certainly a lot of discussion going on and remodelling which made it very exciting.

Then the children made a duck out of lego with a partner.

Then the children made Mr Learnie out of lego.  They were shown a video of him and they tried to beat the video.

Then the chidlren built a robot and then connected it to the laptop.  They programmed it to move and make noises.

They changed the programme with Mr Rankin.
If this shows on the programme it means you repeat it.

WOW!!!!!  The children had so much fun with Mr Rankin.
