Trip to the Auckland Zoo - 5 November 2019
Trip to the Auckland Zoo - 5 November 2019
What a wonderful day of learning we had at the Auckland Zoo.
When we arrived we had morning tea then we moved into our groups and enjoyed looking at the animals.
Then we arrived at the Education Centre and met one of the educators there. She took us to the giraffe area and then we learned many interesting things about giraffes. Inside the enclosure there were tall trees for them to enjoy the leaves and there was lots of sand on the ground for them to walk on. The zebras share the same ecosystem as the giraffes because they are very happy together. Giraffes have very tough, blue tongues. They stretch their tongues out a long way. Their skin is much thicker than ours and it is a great colour as they can be camouflaged around their environment. The Auckland Zoo sponsors a giraffe in Africa called Winky Wonk.
After that we went to the meerkat enclosure with the educator. We found out that meerkats have patches of dark fur around their eyes that help them to see in the sun. They have thick hands and feet which helps them so they don't get burnt. Their claws are perfect for digging. They love to eat beetles, spiders and lizards. Meerkats live in the desert and they love to make tunnels.
After that we had lunch and then we had time to walk around the zoo and look at some other animals.
Please talk to your parents about what you enjoyed at the zoo.

What a wonderful day to see lots of grandparents at Point View School.
First they went to the hall to meet our principal, Mr Kirkham. Then they came into our classroom.
We read a story to them and some of the students shared their writing about grandparents and they
shared their posters as well. We gave these to the grandparents to treasure. The students read
a poem about Grandparents' Day and then they illustrated it together. Then they did a grandparents
word find which was lots of fun. At morning tea the grandparents had a cup of tea and a scone and
