Drama with Mr Kirkham

 Drama with Mr Kirkham - Wednesday 29 November

Today Mr Kirkham came into Room 4 to work with the students.  We were so excited to see Mr Kirkham because the students love drama.
Mr Kirkham asked the students what some of the activities are that they do in the morning before they go out with their families.  We talked about:
* brushing our teeth
* putting our trousers on
* putting our shoes on

The students worked on some movements to do with these three activities.  Then they formed groups of three or four and they decided on some movements that they could do together that show the three things we do in the morning.  They had time to work together and decide what movements they would like to use.  The groups performed in front of the class and it was so interesting to see the movements that they chose.  We talked about how we could improve our movements and we discussed:
* using small, medium and large movements
* getting the students to start in different ways
* using the same movements as a group
* making sure we smile

Then the students moved into different groups and they worked on the same three activities we do in the morning.  The students shared their drama to the other class members.

Thank you Mr Kirkham for coming and sharing your activity with us.

Drama with Mrs Oldham

 Drama with Mrs Oldham

On Tuesday 21 November the students worked with Mrs Oldham.

The lesson was based on the story, 'The Little Mermaid'.  They listened to the story and then discussed the characters and moved like them.  They designed their own programme based on the story.  The students then put together a sequence of events with the characters introducing themselves.  They went to the hall and worked on their own show.  Then they came back to the classroom and used a variety of material to explore the under the sea theme.

Enjoy looking at the photos of their day:

 St John Came to Visit Room 4 - 20/11/23

Today we went to Room 17 to visit Rebecca from St John.  She talked about keeping ourselves safe.  We discussed:
* Keep poison up high or in a locked cupboard.
*Don't drink liquid if you don't know what it is.
*If you see a skipping rope on the ground pick it up and put it away.
*If you are unsure about something, check with an adult.
*When climbing the stairs, hold the rail and walk down the stairs.
*When you are on a swing, hold on tight and wait until the swing has stopped before you get off.
*If you are waiting for a swing then wait by the pole where it is safe.
*If you are at a park with your family and you are climbing a tree, hold on tight.

Each child got a certificate for successfully completing a module in Keeping Safe.

Koru Art

 Koru Art

The students enjoyed working with pastel to create koru patterns.  They thought carefully about how they wanted their art piece to look like.  When they completed their work they outlined it with a black pastel.

Enjoy looking at the students in action and viewing some of the pieces of art:

Grandparents Day

 Grandparents Day

What an amazing day we all had.  It was so lovely to have our grandparents at school today.
When they arrived we welcomed them into our classroom and then we shared some posters about
our grandparents.  After that some of the students shared their writing about their grandparents.  After that the students read a poem about grandparents and then they coloured their poem in with their grandparent.  Then we went to the Junior playground and we did folk dancing and then had morning tea.  After moringi tea we went to the hall for our Grandparents Concert.
It certainly was a very special day.

Here are some photos of our concert:
