Our Visit to Tread Lightly - 11/8/21

 Our Visit to Tread Lightly - 11/8/21

We had such a wonderful time at Tread lightly.

We met Georgina in the hall and we moved into our four groups.  We had four amazing activities to work on.

Thank you to the parent helpers for their wonderful support.

Activity 1:

We looked at a drain and talked about how litter can go to the ocean from the drain.  If we wash our car that soapy water can go down the drain as well.  We discussed how fish can get very sick if they eat the rubbish in the sea as the fish think it is food.  Georgina told us that only rain goes down the drain.

Activity 2:

We looked at the different bins that we can use each day.  Our bins were:

* landfill bin

* recycling bin

* compost bin

* soft plastic bin

* donate bin

We need to think very carefully what goes to the landfill because when the students are 26 years old the rubbish will still be there.  In 100 years time it will still be there.  We found out that soft plastic can be made into furniture.

Chip packets go in the soft plastic bin.

Egg cartons go into the compost bin.

Rotten apples go into the compost bin.

toys go into the donation box.

Activity 3:

We played Geckos and Vines which is like Snakes and Ladders.  We had a large dice and we answered many environmental questions.

Activity 4:

We looked at many creatures using a magnifying glass.  The students also planted a pea seed.

Next we went into the Tread Lightly caravan and looked at some environmental posters, different coloured glass in a container that has been found all around where we live.

Here are some photos of our experience:

We have our own pledge: We are going to reuse and recycle paper.
