Whaea Pen's Visit

 Whaea Pen's Visit - Wednesday 26 June

Whaea Pen visited us today and we sang lots of waiata's which we really enjoyed.  Then we talked about Matariki because it is such a special celebration.  We had a quiz as we tried to guess the star's name.  The students made their own star by folding paper and then they coloured it in.

Whaea Pen's Visit

 Whaea Pen's Visit - Tuesday 18 June

Today Whaea Pen came into our classroom to work with us.
We enjoyed singing some waiata's with actions.  Then we talked about our feelings in Maori.  Whaea Pen read a story about the forest and we found lots of pictures to put around a picture of a tree.  Then we looked at some minibeasts and walked around the room finding a partner who had the same minibeast picture.  Finally we worked on another minibeast activity where we had to click and drag the minibeast to the word in Maori.

Drama with Mrs Oldham

Drama with Mrs Oldham - Tuesday 11 June

Today Mrs Oldham worked with the students in Room 4 using the theme 'Teddy Bears'.
They listened to the story, 'Can't you Sleep Little Bear?'  After the story they discussed two of the characters in detail.  All the children chose a bear from Mrs Oldham's collection to look after during the day and the students loved that.  They tried out different voices for their chosen bear and introduced themselves to the other bears.  Then they sketched their bear with something that they might like and in a circle the bears introduced themselves.
The students listened to the story 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and they repeated some of the dialogue with different voices.  In groups they worked on role play that focused on the story.
They listened to the song 'Teddy Bears Picnic' and as a class they choreographed a mine or dance together.
The students explored inspired play.  There was a variety of books and play based equipment that the students could explore in small groups.
Finally they were involved in mindfulness breathing where the students imagined they were resting on baby bears chair and they had to feel their stomach rise and fall as they breathed in and out.
It was such an exciting day for the students.
