Inquiry Learning - The Kiwi

Inquiry Learning - The Kiwi
The children worked in small groups to find out information about a specific question.  They found information that related to their question about the kiwi and recorded it in note form.

Then the children found a picture that related to their question and put in on pages.  They then created a shape and wrote their question inside.  On the next shape they recorded the information that they found out about their question.

We met Infotective who lives in our school library.  He is so cool!!

We have worked on the Point View School Inquiry Model.  This has involved:
Wondering - building knowledge about the kiwi
Planning - brainstorming and developing quality questions
Investigating - finding information about our questions and making notes
Reflecting - checking to see if we have answered our questions
Taking action - producing a plan by deciding how to communicate our ideas
Sharing - sharing our work with an audience
Here are our posters:

Here we are sharing some of our information.

E-learning - Pages

This week we found out about how to use pages.  The children worked on finding information about the pukeko.  They designed a title for their work and then in groups recorded the information them.  Then they searched for a picture to put on their page.

Pukeko Information

As part of our topic 'Connecting with New Zealand, our Environment' we have been researching information about pukeko.  Enjoy some of the work the children did.

The children worked on laptops using pages. They worked as a group and presented their information.  The children wrote about pukeko and designed a title.  Then they found a picture that fitted with their information.
Enjoy

Buddy Reading

Buddy reading is a time for the children in Room 4 to work with a Year 5 class. Each week Room 17 meet Room 4.  Sometimes we go outside if the weather is fine or we read in one of our classrooms.  Room 4 really enjoys sharing their poetry or reading books to their buddy and they have the opportunity to listen to a story read by their buddy.
Enjoy looking at some of the children sharing stories

Sunrise and Sunset Art

The children discussed sunrise and sunset.  We viewed pictures on google images and talked about the colours.  The children scrapped paint across the cardboard to make interesting patterns and some of the colours mixed together.  Then they designed a variety of different shaped buildings on black paper.  When the children completed their work they decided on a title for their art.
Enjoy looking at some of their work.
We also shared our work at assembly.  Thank you Kathryn for introducing our item.
