Science in a Van - Bubbles
We had a visit from two people from 'Science in a Van'. They came to talk to us about bubbles.
They made a variety of different sized bubbles and even bubbles inside bubbles!!! They talked about what mixture means and this is what you make to be able to blow bubbles. They used water and dishwashing liquid as their first mixture. Then they added oil to this mixture and asked the children to make a prediction or guess what will happen. Ask your child what happened. They also made a mixture of baking soda and vinegar and when it was mixed together the children discussed the reaction as foaming.
Some children from Room 4 were selected to help them with their experiments.
Here are some photos of our exciting morning:

Buddy Reading
The children met their buddy as we have buddy reading each week. It is a wonderful opportunity for the children in Room 4 to have a special friend from the middle school to read to and to listen to them reading stories.
Here are some photos of the children meeting their buddy and enjoying sharing their poetry.
Their buddy class is Room 30 and their teacher is Miss Lankow.

Elmer on Stilts
We read a story called, 'Elmer on Stilts', by David McKee. It is about a group of hunters in the jungle and Elmer the patchwork elephant must think of a way to save his friends. Luckily he comes up with a clever idea to help them.
We talked about the main characters and what they did in the story. We also discussed the important message from the story as a class. The children felt the important message was to help other people if they have a problem.
Then the children wrote about the story and illustrated their work.
Enjoy the display

Christmas Show
What an amazing Christmas assembly we had.
The children in Room 3 and 4 sang a song called 'Santa Claus is Coming'.
They were wonderful to watch and their teacher felt very proud of them.
Merry Christmas to everyone and have a very Happy New Year.

Trip to Omana Beach
We had a wonderful day at Omana Beach. When we got off the bus we had morning tea and then we were met by a ranger. She told us that it was important to leave the shells at the beach. We began exploring the beach. We designed sandcastles and went for a beach treasure hunt. The children had a wonderful time and were very tired when they returned to Point View School.
Here are some photos for you to enjoy.

Tyrannosaurus Rex at Point View School
Tyrannosaurus Rex came to Point View School. Mr Rankin organised T-Rex to come to the hall to visit all the Junior children and then go for a walk around the Junior classes.
It was so exciting and the dinosaur looked real!!!!
First we looked at the main parts of a dinosaur and Mr Rankin showed us a Tyrannosaurus Rex model made out of wood. Then the huge moving model came to visit!!
