Trip to Te Tuhi

Trip to Te Tuhi - 7/9/17
What a great trip we had today.  We met Salome and she took us to the art room.  The children got aprons on and they were ready to work.
Salome talked about symbols and we looked at some Polynesian tapa cloths.  The children talked about the patterns that they noticed.
The lesson today was focused on creating our own artwork inspired by Polynesian tapa.  Our objective was to use colour, shape and line in our drawings with a range of art materials to help tell our stories.
The children crunched up their paper and then flattened it on the table.  They used a brown crayon to shade it and it looked like a real tapa cloth.  Then they put brown dye over it.  Using a dark pencil they designed four boxes and drew pictures related to their family, culture, home and what they like doing.  Then they went over their frames with crayon and dye.
Then Salome showed us around the gallery and we enjoyed looking at all the artwork.  After that we created a range of Polynesian patterns before we boarded the bus.
What a busy day we had.
Enjoy looking at all the pictures:
