Working with Whaea Pen

Working with Whaea Pen - Wednesday 24 July

Today the students focused on the words in Maori that show our feelings.  The students enjoyed learning new songs.  They discussed the words in Maori that relate to different directions.  Whaea Pen read a story about different directions and the students moved to these words.  The students played a game using paua shells.  Two children were chosen and they clapped the paua shells together to see if they could move in the same direction, with their eyes closed.  They discussed the Olympic Games and enjoyed working on an activity about this.

STEM with Mr Rankin - Tuesday 23 July

STEM with Mr Rankin - Tuesday 23 July

Today the students used saws and they cut a piece of wood.  Then they used some sandpaper to take off all the rough edges.  After that they had a pattern of a star and they used a hammer to put nails around the outline of the star.  Then they got some wool and went around the star many times to show an amazing star.
What an exciting day they had.  Thank you to the parents who came to support the students.

Working with Whaea Pen

Working with Whaea Pen - Wednesday 3 July

This afternoon Whaea Pen worked with us.  We sang lots of waiata's and worked on the Maori alphabet.  We asked each other questions in Maori and some of the students shared this with the class.  Whaea Pen read a story called Taniwha Taniwha which is about telling the time and she read it with us in Maori.  We looked at ways to tell the time in Maori.  Then we went outside and played a game all about the time.
