Our Trip to the Botanic Gardens - Tuesday 2 July
What a wonderful trip we had at the Botanical Gardens.
When we arrived we met the educators and they read a karakia then we had morning tea. We moved to the classroom area and we visited a special place near the classroom and went on an adventure, finding some invertebrates in the soil. We had a card to check the invertebrates that we found so we could identify them. After that we went to the area where the compost is made. We could see the worms moving around the compost bins and enjoying themselves. Then we all had a watering can and we put some worm tea inside. We moved around the gardens and watered the plants. Then it was time to visit the classroom. Our educator read us a story that had lots of invertebrates in the story. Then in small groups we worked together, finding the pictures of invertebrates, doing a puzzle, finding out new information about invertebrates and looking at some invertebrates. Our educator showed us some different invertebrates, using a microscope, they looked so interesting. Then we dressed four of the students in flower costumes and they had large pollen shapes on them. The students had either a bee or a butterfly and they moved the pollen from flower to flower. After that they took their bee or butterfly into the flower garden and pollinated the flowers.
Ofter lunch we went with our parent helpers and had a look around the Botanic Gardens. Each group had an activity about the Herb Garden and they really enjoyed working on it.
Then it was time to board the bus and come back to Point View School.
Thank you so much to our parent helpers, you were amazing.
Enjoy looking at the photos of our special day:
